It felt like Game of Thrones had almost everything last season.

Keyword being almost.

As the seventh series went on, eagle-eyed fans couldn’t help but notice that there was one key character missing: Jon Snow’s direwolf, Ghost.

However, VFX supervisor Joe Bauer told Huffington Post that Ghost will no longer be ghosting the King in the North – and he will be back in season 8 in a big way.

He said:

“Oh, you’ll see him again. He has a fair amount of screen time in season 8. He does show up.

“Ghost does show up, and he does some… he’s very present and does some pretty cool things in season 8.”

He also explained the reason behind a lack of direwolves in season 7, confessing that the real wolves that the companions are based on aren’t the easiest to work with.

Bauer added:

“The direwolves are tough because you don’t want to get them wrong, so we end up always shooting real wolves and doing a scaling trick with them, but the real wolves only behave in certain ways.

“I think that has something to do with why the direwolves are in the show but they’re not maybe as integral as they are in the books.”

  • Game of Thrones is due to return for its final six episodes in 2019.
