A great tribute has been paid to Dermot Morgan in Dublin today

Cassie Delaney

I’m no good at judging the size of crowds Ted, but I’d say there’s about seventeen million people who will appreciate this.

Father Ted is a triumph of Irish talent.

And at the centre of one of our finest comedy offerings was Dermot Morgan. The actor made Ted iconic and his turns of phrases, reactions and one-liners are embedded in the hearts of many.

Dun Laoghaire Rathdown this evening unveiled a plaque in Mount Merrion in memory of the late actor.

Speaking at the unveiling, his son Rob Morgan said:

“We’re delighted to have Dermot remembered in this way.

“Mount Merrion was his childhood home, Maguires shop (where plaque is located) supplied him with papers and material for many years, so to be able to stand here today, to do this, is very fitting.

“We just wish he was here too.”
