Another potential triumph for Irish film.
The arts in Ireland are never praised enough.
Between Irish film, music, actors and actresses, there’s never enough recognition for the stellar work the Irish arts industry produces.
Following the incredible success of Brooklyn, it looks like things may be finally looking up for us and one actress in particular may be close to winning the highest acclaim in the acting profession.
Many of us will recognise Ruth Negga for her portrayal of Rosie in RTE drama Love/Hate but it is her latest film which is gaining global attention at an increasing rate.
Irish actress Ruth Negga has won serious praise for her latest offering Loving, a film about a inter-racial married couple in Virginia in the US, set in 1950s.
Also starring Australian actor Joel Edgerton, the British-America drama involves Richard and Mildred Loving disputing the country’s state laws that prohibited African-Americans and Caucasians from co-habitating.
After its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in May, Loving was greeted by a standing ovation. The film has since received rave reviews from critics, scoring a a whopping 91% on Rotten Tomatoes and publications such as The Hollywood Reporter and People magazine have dubbed it a serious contender for the Oscars.
Many others on Twitter have delivered their verdict on the Irish actress, with speculation heating up that Ruth may win the Best Actress gong
