Andrew Scott has bagged himself a Screen Actors Guild (SAG) award nomination for his role as the Hot Priest in Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s Fleabag.

The Dublin actor – who is best known for his role as Moriarty in BBC’s Sherlock as well as the aforementioned  Hot Priest – received the nod following his Golden Globe nomination earlier this week.

This is the fifth best supporting or best actor nomination that Scott has received since season two of the critically acclaimed comedy first aired earlier this year.

Among those also nominated for the SAG in his category are Alan Arkin, Michael Douglas, Bill Hader, and
Tony Shalhoub.

Waller-Bridge also received a nomination for her role in Fleabag, while the show received a further nod for best ensemble cast in a comedy series.

Scott recently told Stephen Colbert on The Late Show that when he and Waller-Bridge were considering the Hot Priest role, they wanted him to ultimately be a “good person.”

“I was brought up Catholic so when we first started talking we wanted a good man who has a genuine dilemma between his love for this woman and his love of the church,” he said.

“That’s a real dilemma for a lot of people. We wanted it to not just be a gimmicky love story. The fact that the world has embraced it is genuinely cool.”

Unfortunately missing from this year’s SAG nominations, however, is Saoirse Ronan.

Nominated for a Golden Globe for her role in Little Women earlier this week, Ronan is noticeably absent from the SAGs this year.

The awards ceremony will take place on January 20, 2020.
