The story of Anne Frank is to be adapted into an animated movie by Israeli director Ari Folman.
As well as directing, Folman will be writing the script. According to Purple Whale Films, this the first time that a director/producer team has been given access to all of the archives of the Anne Frank Fonds Basel.
Production on the animated film is to begin in winter 2014.
“Bringing the Anne Frank Diary to all screens is a fantastic opportunity and challenge as there is a real need for new artistic material to keep the memory alive for younger generations” said Folman.
Folman’s animated documentary Waltz With Bashir was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language feature.
He recently won the European Film Award for best animation film with his film The Congress.
