The awards show will take place on 27 February.

Irish actresses Caitríona Balfe and Ruth Negga have been nominated for Screen Actors Guild Awards.

The pair are up against each other in the same category – Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role.

Balfe was nominated for her performance in Kenneth Branagh’s coming-of-age film Belfast, while Negga was recognised for her work in Rebecca Hall’s film Passing.

This isn’t the first time Balfe and Negga have appeared in the same category this award’s season – they were both nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture. The gong eventually went to Arianna DeBose for her performance in Stephen Spielberg’s West Side Story.

DeBose has also been nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award. The other nominees in the category are Care Blanchett for Nightmare Alley and Kirsten Dunst for The Power of the Dog.

Belfast has also been nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture. The film also stars Judi Dench, Jamie Dornan, Ciarán Hinds, Colin Morgan and Jude Hill.

Branagh loosely based the film on his own childhood, and has described it as his “most personal film”. It faces stiff competition as the other films in this category are CODA, Don’t Look Up, House of Gucci and King Richard.

The nominees in the category for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role are Jessica Chastain for The Eyes of Tammy Faye, Olivia Colman for The Lost Daughter, Lady Gaga for House of Gucci, Jennifer Hudson for Respect and Nicole Kidman for Being the Ricardos.

Their male counterparts for Outstanding Performance in a Leading Role are Javier Bardem for Being the Ricardos, Benedict Cumberbatch for The Power of the Dog, Andrew Garfield for Tick, Tick… Boom, Will Smith for King Richard and Denzel Washington for The Tragedy of Macbeth.

The Screen Actors Guild Awards will take place on 27 February.
