Has the Call Her Daddy podcast just pulled the best marketing stunt of all time?

Ellen Fitzpatrick

You got to hand it to them.

If you haven’t seen the promo for the latest episode of the Call Her Daddy podcast yet, you’re in for a wild ride.

While the clip is only short and doesn’t actually tell us who the special guest this week is, it’s not hard to work it out – or so we thought.

Insinuating that Maroon 5 singer Adam Levine is going to appear on the podcast and address the rumours he has had multiple affairs with Instagram models, the clip shows host Alex Cooper is heard asking that very question as well as claiming she was once a huge fan of his band.

Not showing who she is speaking to, fans were only more convinced it definitely was Levine as the outro music then plays She Will Be Loved, one of the band’s biggest hits.

But only hours after the clip was released, it seems that we may all have been fooled.

Levine’s wife Behati Prinsloo commented on the Instagram post saying “LOL”, which immediately made some fans question whether or not her husband was actually the guest in question.

And after Levine’s rep confirmed he hadn’t taken part at all, fans were left more confused than ever.

It turns out the special guest this week is actually Adam Devine, and the whole thing might just be the best marketing stunt of all time.

The Pitch Perfect actor often gets confused with the singer due to their similar names and as Devine is known for his comedy, it’s not unlike him to participate in a joke like this.

Posting a follow-up video on the Call Her Daddy account, they confirmed it was in fact Devine appearing on the show and noted that he and his wife are doing just fine.

Of course, the original video insinuating that Levine was on the podcast has received more attention than Devine’s and the internet can’t stop talking about the whole thing – they knew exactly what they were doing with this promo.

The singer was accused of having an affair that lasted a year with Instagram model Sumner Stroh but he has since denied anything went on, only that he had “crossed a line”.

The Maroon 5 singer also told the woman he cheated with that he would name his child after her.

At the time of the rumours, Devine did make a comment on them, writing on Instagram: “Just want to post this and say that my wife @chloebridges and I are doing great and going strong. I am not Adam Levine. He’s a different guy and a worse singer. We are however naming our future baby Sumner.”
