A writer for the axed reboot revealed that Hilary Duff’s iconic character would have finally hooked up with her middle school crush Ethan Craft, not once but twice!
In a four-part series on TikTok, writer Jonathan Hurwitz revealed that in the series, Lizzie would have returned to her childhood home after her big city life in New York falls apart.
At the end of the second episode, she would receive a text message from Ethan, played by Clayton Snyder, and "animated Lizzie faints."
On top of this, apparently, in episode three which was never filmed, Lizzie was to wake up in her crush's bed wearing his shirt as the cartoon version of herself ticks his name off a to-do list.
Yet there was another moment we will now never see play out on screen, the reunion of Lizzie and her dear friend Gordo.
When the show was on air, many fans wanted to see the two get together, apparently that was never going to happen and instead, they would be back as friends.
In the new episodes, Gordo would have told Hilary's character that he was engaged and expecting a child.
The 'Lizzie McGuire' reboot was announced in August 2019 with the show’s original creator, Terri Minsky, on board with the project alongside original cast members Hallie Todd, Robert Carradine and Jake Thomas.
In January 2020, Terri exited the show and forced the project into limbo before being cancelled in December of that same year.
"The stars just didn’t align," Hilary said after news of the cancellation broke.
Prior to this both she and Terri reportedly lobbied to have Hulu pick up the series to better reflect Lizzie's transition into adulthood.
"I’d be doing a disservice to everyone by limiting the realities of a 30-year-old’s journey to live under the ceiling of a PG rating," the actress said on Instagram at the time.
"It would be a dream if Disney would let us move the show to Hulu, if they were interested, and I could bring this beloved character to life again."
