Coronation Street respond to reports Katie McGlynn is leaving the soap

Keeley Ryan

Coronation Street have responded to reports that Katie McGlynn is going to be exiting the soap.

The 25-year-old has played Sinead Tinker since 2013, and is in the middle of portraying a heartbreaking storyline involving her character’s battle with cervical cancer.

And while how the storyline will play out is being kept under wraps, new reports have claimed that Katie has decided to leave the show.

However, a Corrie spokesperson told Digital Spy:

“Katie is fully committed to playing out the extremely important storyline she is currently portraying on screen.

“This story still has a long way to go. Any speculation threatens to undermine the storyline for viewers.”

So, at least that means that she will be remaining in Weatherfield for awhile yet.

An insider previously told The Sun that Katie, who was nominated for a British Soap Award nomination for Best Female Dramatic Performance earlier this week, had left the soap.

They said that she “will need replacing urgently,” having been central to a number of massive storylines this year.

They added:

“Katie has just been nominated for a British Soap Award so it’s a big loss and not what bosses would have wanted to hear.”

The news of Katie’s possible exit come after a number of her Coronation Street co-stars have announced they are leaving the soap.

Faye Brookes, who plays Kate Connor, announced on Tuesday that she was “off to pastures new” after four years on the soap.

And Tristan Gemmell, who plays Robert Preston, told his fans on April 26 that it was time to “hang up the chef’s gear and head for pastures new.”

Connie Hyde, Kym Marsh and Bhavna Limbachia have all also announced they were leaving the cobbles in 2019.
