Coronation Street shares sweet tribute to Kym Marsh as Michelle Connor’s exit airs

Keeley Ryan

Coronation Street has shared a sweet tribute to Kym Marsh as Michelle Connor’s exit scenes aired last night.

The actress announced earlier this year that she would be taking an indefinite break from the cobbles. She had played Michelle Connor for more than a decade.

Following the tragic death of Robert Preston on Christmas Day, Michelle made the decision to sell the Bistro and leave Weatherfield.

In scenes that aired on Friday, she was left devastated when she found out that the mystery buyer of the Bistro was Ray Crosby. Michelle broke down in tears, before starting to smash up the place.

Carla convinced her to stop, telling her that she was doing the right thing by taking some time to visit with her family in Ireland.

And after warning Ali and Ryan that Ray was a creep, Michelle had her farewell drinks with her loved ones – and then left the cobbles.

Following her exit, Coronation Street shared a sweet tribute to the actress – and her character – on YouTube.

The seven minute video shows Kym looking back on some of Michelle’s biggest highlights over her 14 years on the cobbles.

Kym first appeared on Corrie in a cameo role, playing Michelle Connor, back in 2006.

Her popularity with viewers landed her a permanent role on the soap.

In February, the actress announced that she would be taking a break from the soap.

“When I was lucky enough to be offered four episodes, I could never in my wildest dreams have thought I’d be here 13 years later,” she said at the time.

“It’s been an incredibly difficult decision but it feels like the right time for me to explore some other roles. But this isn’t the last you’ve heard of Michelle Connor – she’ll be back! I can’t wait to see what the writers have in store for the future.”
