It has been ten years since we last heard from the lovable spinster Bridget Jones but now rumour has it that she is coming back – with a bang.

The Independent has reported that the third Bridget Jones movie, Bridget Jones’s Baby, is set to go into production later this year.

The movie will be based on some of creator Helen Fielding’s columns and not her latest book Mad About the Boy.

The third movie will see Bridget and Mark have a baby.

Renée Zellweger and Colin Firth are both reported to be on board to play Bridget and her new husband Mark Darcy.

Until now, the hugely popular movies have centered around the 30-something’s dramatic love triangle.

However, the next installment is set to be a lot more one-sided as Hugh Grant has announced he will not reprise his role as the cheeky rouge, Daniel Cleaver.

Which is probably for the best, as it looks like Bridget and her fiancé Mark Darcy are extending their brood.

Hugh Grant will not reprise his role as Daniel Cleaver.

Speaking to the Daily Mail last year, Hugh Grant revealed: “The book’s excellent, by the way, but the script is completely different – well, the script as I last saw it a few years ago.”

Eric Fellman of Working Title has said: “We are keen to try to make (Bridget Jones 3) later this year but there’s still nothing definite yet.

“If the script and all our deals with the actors fall into place then this one will be up and running.”

Creator Helen Fielding will co-write the screenplay.

Sharon Maguire is back to direct following her huge success with Bridget Jones’s Diary in 2001 and author David Nicholls (One Day) has reportedly lent his talents to the screenplay.

Colin Firth told the Independent last year that he was up for a third movie if the story was right.

He said: “Back at the time I said that a third one should only happen if we were telling a story about having moved into a different generation when we were all beginning to deteriorate a little bit.

“I think we might be ready for that moment!”

We really, really hope this is happening.
