Orlaith Condon

The Queen has found her new prince.

For months now, speculation over who would take over the reigns from the current cast ahead of season three has been the talk of fans everywhere.

Last year, it was confirmed that Olivia Coleman would be taking over from Claire Foy in the role as Her Majesty the Queen, however, questions about who would play her husband, Prince Phillip were yet to be answered – until today.

It has been confirmed that former Game of Thrones actor Tobias Menzies is to take over the role of Prince Phillip from Matt Smith in season three.

The actor is well-known to many viewers as Edmure Tully in GOT and Frank Randall in Outlander, however, now takes on his most regal role yet.

The 44-year-old actor has signed on for the next two seasons of the show which will begin shooting with a whole new cast in the summer.

It had been rumoured that Paul Bettany would be stepping into the role, however, the actor took himself out of the running in recent weeks.

Meanwhile, Helena Bonham Carter has been confirmed to be taking over the role of Princess Margaret from Vanessa Kirby.
