Sex and the City fans have been living in hope that there will be another instalment…

However, Cynthia Nixon aka Miranda Hobbes may just have deflated a LOT of dream balloons this week.

The actress is currently promoting her new film, Ruth and Alex.

In a statement that will surely disappoint fans, the 49-year-old told the Guardian that she doesn’t feel the New York-based franchise “needs” another movie.

She said: “With something that is such a success, it’s very hard to know what all went into us capturing that moment.

“We don’t need another Sex and the City because we learned the lesson of the show: marriage isn’t the be all and end all in women’s minds any more, and women are friends with each other in a way that rivals their romantic relationships.”

We haven’t seen the four girls since 2010.

The traitor actress added that while it might be interesting to see the friends together again, she wouldn’t envy the scriptwriter who would have to decide “what happens to them next”.

We are definitely not talking to her right now.
