Danny Boyle Confirms Iconic Movie Trainspotting Is Getting A Sequel

The original cast are set to return.

Danny Boyle has revealed that iconic black comedy Trainspotting is getting a sequel. 

While promoting his latest movie, Steve Jobs, the British director confirmed that Trainspotting 2 will be his next project.

Danny is currently promoting his movie ‘Steve Jobs’. 

Speaking to Deadline, Danny confirmed that the original cast -Ewan McGregor Ewen Bremner, Jonny Lee Miller and Robert Carlyle – were all on board to return for the sequel.

He said: “All the four main actors want to come back and do it.”

He admitted that production will begin once all four actors can coordinate their schedules as Jonny Lee Miller and Robert Carlyle are tied up with Sherlock Holmes and Once Upon a Time respectively.

Ewan McGregor is tipped to return for Trainspotting 2. 

He added: “Now it is only a matter of getting all their schedules together which is complicated by two of them doing American TV series.”

The award-winning director previously revealed that he would like the release of the sequel to coincide with the original movie’s twentieth anniversary which occurs next year.

He told Playlist: “Because it was 1996 when Trainspotting came out. Twenty years, it’s like wow, where did that go.”

The original movie was released in 1996. 

The sequel will be based on Porno –  author Irvine Welsh’s follow up to Trainspotting. 

Side note- Trainspotting was twenty years ago and now we feel really old.
