It's always a hit or miss scenario when our beloved stage musicals make their way to the silver screen. If you're a fan of the theatre, you'll agree that sometimes what makes a Broadway show unforgettable is the live element. Understandably, the news that one of the most successful modern musicals of our time was being turned into a movie was met with some trepidation.
Well, the good news is, if the trailer is anything to go by, we're gonna be alright.
Universal released the trailer for the Dear Evan Hansen movie this week with Ben Platt returning to the role that made him a star on the Great White Way. Platt plays Evan Hansen, a high-school student who suffers from crippling social anxiety who unintentionally gets caught up in a lie with a fellow student.

Dear Evan Hansen debuted on Broadway in 2016 and quickly took the musical theatre world by storm. The show took home six Tony Awards, including best actor for Platt and best musical. As if the Tony awards weren't enough, the original Broadway album also bagged a Grammy for the cast.
The film sees Stephen Chbosky take the helm as director with script by Steven Levenson. The movie also stars Kaitlyn Dever, Amandla Stenberg, Amy Adams and Julianne Moore and is expected to hit theatres in September.
