Dermot Kennedy shares health update after cancelled shows – but everyone’s talking about his handwriting

Like, wow.

Dermot Kennedy has reassured fans that he is on the mend after backing out of a number of gigs; but it’s his handwriting that everyone is obsessed with.

The singer-songwriter, who was unable to perform at festivals in the UK, Switzerland and Germany recently, said the cancellations were down to vocal strain.

Sharing a photo of handwritten notes to Instagram, he explained that it was the first time he had to do that and said it was “really horrible feeling”.

“Basically my voice felt like it wasn’t my own and I had half the range that I normally have.”

The issue was down to “massive amounts of tension and tightness” in his neck, he continued.

“It’s essentially choking me whenever I go to sing the way I’m used to.”

He told fans that he was working with a vocal coach but said the ordeal had taken a mental toll on him.

“I pride myself on showing up and giving my all for anybody who’s there so it feels incredibly disarming and frustrating to be restricted in doing that.

“This is a mental challenge just as much as it is a physical one and it’s hard to stay positive at all times.”

Dozens of fans responded to the post with messages of support – but many couldn’t help remarking on his flowing script.

“That handwriting, wow,” commented one.

“CAN WE PLEASE TALK ABOUT HOW BEAUTIFUL YOUR HANDWRITING IS AH,” wrote another.

“Your lyric books must be so beautiful!,” said a third.

You have the most beautiful handwriting I’ve ever seen.”

Just as well that Dermot is looking after himself as he has a busy few months to come.

He’s just announced more festival dates across Europe for later in the summer and is due to play Electric Picnic at the end of August.

His debut album Without Fear is set for release on 27 September.
