Dermot O'Leary has emerged as the bookies' favourite to take over from Jeremy Clarkson on BBC's Top Gear.
The X Factor presenter announced last night that he is leaving the reality show after eight years and speculation is now growing that he could be set to join the popular motoring show.
It was confirmed earlier this week that Clarkson's contract with the BBC will not be renewed after an investigation found that he targeted producer Oisín Tymon with a 20-minute verbal tirade and a 30-second physical assault in a row over catering.
According to The Express, Coral Bookmakers have shortened O'Leary's odds of taking on the Top Gear role from 4-1 to 2-1 following a surge in bets overnight.
"Dermot O'Leary's decision to quit the X Factor has sparked a mega gamble on him taking over Top Gear. Since O'Leary announced his decision to quit the X Factor, all the bets haven been placed on him becoming Clarkson's successor."
