Love Island‘s Dr Alex has announced that he’s going back to work for the NHS.

The awkward doctor said that although he enjoyed his time on the reality TV show, he just missed his time in A&E far too much.

He has therefore decided that he’s going to hang up his social media influencer hat and return to the hospital.

Or, he’s going to do both at the same time. Whichever suits.

Writing on Twitter and Instagram, he said: “Love Island was the experience of a lifetime, but ever since I left the villa I’ve genuinely missed working for the NHS.

“That’s why this week, I’m going back to A&E. I trained for years for the opportunity to help people, and I can’t wait to get back to doing what I love.”

Alex, who just missed out on the Love Island final almost five months ago, told his 1.3 million followers that he wasn’t going to use his new found fame for sponsorship deals, but to educate the public.

He went on:

“I’ll be using my platform to raise awareness around health issues among young people.

“Hopefully I’ll be able to give you a bit of insight into what it’s like on the front lines of the NHS. I hope you all continue this incredible journey with me. Here we go!”

The doctor’s message was met by support and delight by his followers, many of whom said they were looking forward to seeing what kind of content Alex turned to next.

The 27-year-old already uses Instagram Stories to answer questions people have about mental and sexual health, as well as the effects of drinking and drug use.
