Sam Gannon, an actor who appeared in the UK soap opera Emmerdale has passed away at the age of 31.

According to his family, Sam died suddenly while he was travelling in the US. His death is not being treated as suspicious.

Sam played a horse and carriage coachman on the soap in 2019. During his Emmerdale stint, he shared scenes with Emma Atkins, who played Charity Dingle. He also had roles in Tales of Bacon and Babes with Blades.

Sam’s mother Angela confirmed to the BBC that her son had passed away.

She said: “You just don’t expect these things to happen, especially to a young man of 31 who was having the time of his life.

“He was having a great time, up in the mountains shooting tin cans, building stables for horses. The last time I spoke to him was on Monday.”

Angela said that she is in “total shock”. She also told the BBC that he had a heart condition which “reared its ugly head” recently.

The family have since launched a fundraiser to help bring Sam’s body back to the UK.
