Emmerdale fans were overcome with emotion on Friday night as Paddy Kirk and Chas Dingle picked the godparents for their unborn daughter, Margarita.
The parents-to-be have already tragically learned that their daughter will not survive long outside of the womb, as she suffers from a genetic disorder called bilateral renal genesis.
This means that she does not have any kidneys and her lungs are underdeveloped.
In scenes that aired tonight [Friday, August 3], the pair – who have decided to spend as much time with Margarita as possible – decided on godparents for their daughter: Marlon Dingle and Liv Flaherty.
This led to a heartbreakingly sweet scenes as Chas and Paddy sat the pair down to ask them for “a favour.”
Chas explained to them:
“If things were different; if the future was easier…well then one day, Margarita would have a huge christening.
“And we would want you to be godparents.”

Marlon emotionally tells them that he would “love” that, before Paddy told him and Liv that they would actually like them to be godparents from now.

Later on in the episode, fans were heartbroken for the pair when they went for a scan and Margarita’s heartbeat could not initially be found.
After returning to the pub, Chas admitted that she felt overwhelmed – and admitted that she wasn’t ready to say goodbye to their daughter yet.
The devastating scenes struck a chord with viewers, who were absolutely heartbroken for the pair.
