Fans have suspected for years that Daenerys' brother Rhaegar Targaryen had a much, much bigger role to play in the Song of Ice And Fire series.
The reason? Because it was believed that he was Jon Snow's real father.
In this week's episode, it was all but officially confirmed that the King in the North was conceived by Rhaegar and Lyanna Stark after he annulled his first marriage.
All because Gilly stumbled across the news while helping Sam.
Fans eagerly watched as she stumbled through the news that Prince 'Raggar' had gotten his marriage annulled, before marrying someone else in Dorne.
Gilly said:
"It says here (the high septon) annulled a marriage from Prince Raggar and married him in secret, to another woman, in Dorne."But as she read out arguably the biggest bombshell this season, she was quickly cut off by Sam. The maester-in-training, who was frustrated that the other maesters weren't listening to his warnings about the White Walkers, interrupted his girlfriend so he could fume about how he was being treated. And while there's no way he could have known that her comment was an absolute game changer for the series, his abrupt treatment of Gilly definitely struck a nerve with viewers. https://twitter.com/_abigailbrooks/status/896915708877131778 https://twitter.com/jadande/status/896921399285039104 https://twitter.com/andrewgrutt/status/896919232520355840 https://twitter.com/_ethangregory/status/897050083157397506 https://twitter.com/Tashi_110/status/897068903804715008 https://twitter.com/turkster/status/897197656392560640 https://twitter.com/Sabah07/status/897254263394635776 https://twitter.com/GameOfThroneGuy/status/897200292391006209 https://twitter.com/sammyjlaw/status/897176575975845889 https://twitter.com/LyingInTheSun/status/897176395432030208
