It was a great TV series.
Dirty John first came on to our screens at the end of last year and it’s safe to say we were hooked.
It followed the story of the “decades long criminal career” of serial predator John Meehan, and how he manipulated a wealthy woman called Debra Newell. It was dramatic, thrilling and everything you could want in a TV show.
A second series of the show has just been announced and it will follow a new story. Titled Dirty John: The Betty Broderick Story, the new series will have a whole new cast of characters and the main leads have just been announced.
Amanda Peet will star as Betty Broderick while Christian Slater will play Betty’s husband.
Series creator Alexandra Cunningham told USA Network: “The first season of Dirty John was a story of twisted love and coercive control — and both these insidious elements are also present in and integral to the story of Betty Broderick, whom I have wanted to write about since I became a writer. I can’t wait to see Amanda and Christian bring it to life.”
Oprah once described the Betty Broderick case as “one of America’s messiest divorces, even before it ended in a double homicide,” so you know we’re in for a dramatic season.
