Farrell Back In The Homeland To Film First Irish Movie In Five Years

Colin Farrell is currently in Co. Fermanagh where filming has begun for his first Irish movie in five years, Miss Julie. Farrell will shoot the film with co-star Jessica Chastain throughout the month of April.

The last Irish film Farrell starred in was the fairytale Ondine, even though he has returned to work with director Martin McDonagh since for Seven Psychopaths.

The plot, based on a play written by August Strindberg and originally based in Sweden, was banned in 1888 due to its stark look at the reality of inter-class relationships. The film concerns a love affair between the daughter of an Anglo-Irish aristocrat and the valet she encourages to seduce her with events taking place over one night in 1874.

Miss Julie also stars Jessica Chastain as the daughter of the aristocrat and Samantha Morton, who plays the cook from the house.

The film is reported to be costing €4.5 million and is due to be released in 2014. Directed by Liv Ullman, the plot almost echoes the storyline from Downton Abbey which involves Lady Sybil and the chauffeur Tom.
