We FINALLY know that exact date Game of Thrones season 8 will air

Wayne Farry

For The Throne.

Those are the three words with which HBO announced that the latest and final season of Game Of Thrones will premiere on the network on April 14.

Fans of the George R. R. Martin‘s fantasy epic have been excitedly waiting for new details about the season ever since last week’s teaser trailer hit the internet.

That trailer, which featured Kit Harrington’s Jon Snow, Emilia Clarke’s Daenerys Targaryen and Sophie Turner’s Sansa Stark together at Winterfell, whetted the appetite for what is to come, as did a recent interview with HBO boss Richard Plepler in which he stated that each new episode was like “watching a movie”.

Now, thankfully, we actually have a release date for the eighth and final season, which will hit our screens on April 14 of this year.

The trailer which accompanied the release date shows Jon, Sansa and their sister Arya in the catacombs underneath Winterfell, looking at statues of their ancestors for inspiration.

It is at this moment that the torches they are using to light up the dark hallways extinguish and – you’ve probably guessed by now – ice descends towards them, symbolising the march of the White Walkers southwards.

The new trailer for the final season has already been viewed millions of times and the tweet containing it shared hundreds of thousands of times, going some way to suggest that – eight years after the premiere of the first season – fans of Game Of Thrones are still as committed as ever.
