First look: Princess Diana and Margaret Thatcher in The Crown season four

Jade Hayden

Ah, The Crown season four.

It feels like an age since its release date was announced, and even longer since our Princess Di and Maggie Thatcher were cast.

In fact, we’ve already had another Diana announced for the show’s later seasons in the meantime. Classic.

But let’s not jump ahead of ourselves. Let’s not get too excited just yet, for we are still eagerly anticipating The Crown’s fourth season. Charles’ blossoming relationship with the people’s princess, Thatcher’s harsh reign, Prince Philip being a dog, no doubt.

It’s all still to happen, and it’s happening later this year.

So, in order to whet our whistles, Netflix have done us all a solid and released a series of first look images, featuring Emma Corrin as Princess Di and Gillian Anderson as Margaret Thatcher.

And here’s the series summary, as provided by Netflix.

“As the 1970s are drawing to a close, Queen Elizabeth (Olivia Colman) and her family find themselves preoccupied with safeguarding the line of succession by securing an appropriate bride for Prince Charles (Josh O’Connor), who is still unmarried at 30.

“As the nation begins to feel the impact of divisive policies introduced by Britain’s first female Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher (Gillian Anderson), tensions arise between her and the Queen which only grow worse as Thatcher leads the country into the Falklands War, generating conflict within the Commonwealth.

“While Charles’ romance with a young Lady Diana Spencer (Emma Corrin) provides a much-needed fairy-tale to unite the British people, behind closed doors, the Royal family is becoming increasingly divided.”

The Crown season four will debut on Netflix on November 15.
