Fleabag’s final episode aired last night – here’s why you should watch the entire show from the start

fleabag

True comedic devastating perfection.

If you’ve been anywhere near social media today, you’ve probably seen people chatting up a storm about Fleabag.

The series follows Phoebe Waller-Bridge as Fleabag, a woman who’s struggling with her sex life, stumbling through her love life, and fairly incapable of keeping her small business afloat.

Fleabag has got daddy issues, she’s got sister issues, and she’s got stepmother issues. Basically, she’s got all the kind of issues you can think of making her extremely relatable, pretty much likeable, and entirely hilarious.

Unfortunately for those of us who have just gotten into the show (blitzed through most of season one last night, don’t you know?), Fleabag ended yesterday after a humble two seasons, 12 episodes in total.

Waller-Bridge kept fans waiting a whole three years between the first and second season, giving her time to write the wildly successful Killing Eve.

You’ll be unsurprised to hear that she wrote Fleabag too, basing the series on her own one-woman show of the same name.

Fleabag won the Fringe First Award at 2013’s Edinburgh festival and although we haven’t been graced with the opportunity to see Waller-Bridge’s performance, if the show is anything to go by the win was entirely deserved.

Funny, graphic, and completely devastating, Fleabag has been The Show that people have been talking about for the past while now.

The likes of it, Killing Eve, Derry Girls and countless others have been applauded for giving gas women the chance to be funny on primetime telly.

And although comedy is still very much dominated by men, the sheer importance and talent of these female voices is finally being recognised and enjoyed by mainstream audiences – and that can only be a good thing.

At the moment, Fleabag is only available to watch on BBC iPlayer and Amazon, making it difficult enough for us to access it here in Ireland (unless you’ve got an Amazon subscription), but honestly it’s worth it.

Completely.
