Grey’s Anatomy fans heartbroken as a fan favourite doctor ‘exits’ show

Keeley Ryan

Say it’s not so!

After more than a decade, Grey’s Anatomy fans are used to plenty of casting changes.

This season, so far, has been no exception.

The long-running medical drama recently kicked off its 15th season, following the exit of Dr. Arizona Robbins and Dr. April Kepner – and the introduction of two new doctors.

But that didn’t make it any easier for Grey’s Anatomy fans when they found out the latest casualty in the Shondaland drama.

WARNING: The rest of this story contains spoilers for the latest episode of Grey’s Anatomy, ‘Gut Feeling’.

Seriously.

We meant it.

Jackson Avery left his other half, Maggie; his co-works and viewers stunned when he appeared to leave Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital without a goodbye.

Fans found out that the character, played by Jesse Williams, had left through Maggie when she told Meredith that Jackson had left her a voicemail about taking “a step back” from his “whole life.”

Devastated, she asked:

“He said he needed to go clear his head or unplug or whatever. He has some big questions and he needed some big answers. Is there something wrong with me?”

We’ve got out fingers crossed that it isn’t the last we’ll see of Jackson and that he’ll eventually turn up to explain himself to poor Maggie. After all, neither Grey’s or Williams himself have said anything about a permanent exit for the character.

But that doesn’t mean that fans were happy about what happened – especially after he finally said he loved her in the episode before.
