Here’s everything we know about the seventh season of New Girl

Not long left to go now.

Jess, Nick, Cece, Schmidt and Winston are almost back for the final time.

It may still be three months away, but there’s already been a few hints as to what the New Girl loft mates are up to win the show returns.

And, as it turns out, it’s a lot.

Fans saw season six wrap up the storylines for all for the main characters: Jess and Nick got back together, Cece and Schmidt expecting their first child together and Aly helping Winston ring his dad.

Following the finale, the show was picked up for a final – and shorter than usual – season.

Here’s everything we know about New Girl‘s seventh season.

When does it premiere?

New Girl will be debuting in the United States on April 10, with the eight episodes running uninterrupted until the one hour finale on May 15.

There’s been no word yet on when it will hit TV screens in Ireland.

Who is in it?

Besides the main six characters – Zooey Deschanel, Max Greenfield, Jake Johnson, Lamorne Morris, Hannah Simone and Nasim Pedrad – there will be a lot of familiar faces returning.

Original cast member Damon Wayans Jr (Coach) will make an appearance, as will Nelson Franklin (Robby), David Walton (Sam), Rebecca Reid (Nadia), Sam Richardson (Dunston) and Dermot Mulroney (Russell).

Rob Reiner and Jamie Lee Curtis will also reappear as Jess’ parents, Bob and Joan Day.

JB Smoove and Tig Notary will also appear during the season.

What’s it about?

Season seven will pick up with the characters three years after the sixth season finale.

Nick and Jess are still going strong, talking about tying the knot after returning from a European book tour – and according to Zooey Deschanel, there could be a happily ever after in store for the couple.

She told TVLine:

“Jess wants him to propose, and then she decides she’s happy with the way it is. So, we’ll see.”

But things take a turn when she decides to take a job with her ex boyfriend, Russell, something that Nick “doesn’t have a problem” with – at first.

And there will be another New Girl when the comedy returns – Schmidt and Cece’s 3-year-old daughter, Ruth.

There’s another big change on the way for the couple, too.

Following Cece’s career skyrocketing, Schmidt is a stay-at-home-dad with Ruth – something which, according to Max Greenfield, is a perfect fit for the character.

He told TVLine:

“He really enjoys being a dad. He’s also a control freak and he wants to control the environment — because the environment’s gotta be right.

“He’s sort of like, ‘I think it’d just be better if I was here.’”

Parenthood is also on the way for the newly married Aly and Winston, with the dad-to-be reuniting with his estrange father.
