Here’s Why The McGregor Fight Was Strangely Omitted From Last Night’s RTÉ News

Viewers were left perplexed.

Weird choice.

Many viewers tuned in to the RTÉ News last night to get the full low down on Conor McGregor’s shock defeat to Nate Diaz this weekend.

Considering it was the MMA star’s first EVER UFC defeat, it seemed like it was pretty big news, right?

While it was featured on the One o’ clock and Six o’ clock, it was nowhere to be seen at 9pm.

However, many were left feeling perplexed (and unfulfilled) when the McGregor fight was strangely omitted altogether.

Our bros at SportsJOE were not letting this one slip through the net, and got on to the folks at RTÉ for answers.

They explained that due to timing issues, they were unable to run the McGregor item as had been originally planned:

“A report on the McGregor fight was also in the running order in the sport news on our Nine o’clock news bulletin last night, however during the actual programme a number of live links ran over.”

“By the time the extent of the over-run was calculated fully the programme was already in the sportsnews section and the only item they could cut to make up the same time as the over run at that point was the McGregor report.

“It is extremely regrettable but unfortunately situations like this can happen on occasion during live broadcasts.”
