I’m a Celeb’s Danny Baker forced to deny causing Bob Marley’s death

Well this is odd.

If you had never heard of I’m a Celebrity contestant Danny Baker, this story might make him a bit more memorable.

If you’re a Bob Marley fan, you will know that the reggae legend died in 1981, reportedly from skin cancer originated from a football injury.

Well radio broadcaster Danny Baker had told people he played football with the Jamaican singer during a charity match, and claimed he clashed with him and that he ended up hobbling off the pitch.

So perhaps you can see where people connected the dots.

Rumours began to surface that Danny actually caused Bob Marley’s untimely death, so the presenter was forced to clear things up in an article for the Radio Times Magazine last year.

“OK, so the rumour goes that while representing the New Musical Express football team against the Wailers one evening, I savagely tackled Bob Marley and mangled his big toe,” he wrote.

“Cut to several years later and Bob tragically dies of a cancer that doctors say originated from an old footballing injury. In his toe. Got it? No further questions, your witness.”

However Danny’s bragging about meeting, and arguing with the singer was a complete lie.

“Except, and here’s a humiliating confession, I never did play football against Bob Marley and the Wailers.”

He explained on one of his numerous retelling of this lie while on the radio, a caller interjected asking if he was the one who killed Bob Marley and Danny was too embarrassed to admit he’d never met him.

The internet got hold of the information and unsurprisingly it erupted. Forcing Danny to clear up the cringe-worthy fib in a lengthily article.
