“I’m Not Jealous” Ten Signs You’re In Love With Your Best Mate

You might just be in love...

Sue Murphy

With What If in cinemas this week, this really got us thinking about those relationships that we thought were friendships but were really so much more. If you begin to think you may actually be in love with your best friend, there are certain signs you can watch out for. Here are just ten of them.

1. You get annoyed when he doesn’t call.

He said he’d call, why hasn’t he called? Do you think he’ll call? Normally, you could go for three days before you even realise your friends haven’t called but not this guy.

2. There’s a touch of the green-eyed monster.

“Who is that girl you were talking to?”

“Oh, she’s just a friend…”

“Oh, right.”

Internal rage.

3. You want to tell him the important news before you tell anyone else.

Doesn’t matter that your mother brought you into this world and has pretty much looked after you since. No, you would rather call your best friend to tell him the news. Are we seeing a pattern here?

4. They can do no wrong.

Even when they do wrong, they can do no wrong. They didn’t mean it. They wouldn’t mean it. They just totally wouldn’t do that.

5. You think about him ALL the time.

Wait, you didn’t think about him there for two minutes. Now, you’re thinking about the fact that you haven’t thought about him in two minutes. No, you’re still thinking about him. All the time.

6. You like him ALL the time, even when he is being annoying.

Even those times when he annoys everyone else around you, you think it’s endearing. Swoon.

7. You get butterflies when you know you’re going to see him.

You see him everyday. You basically feel seasick all the time now.

8. You start comparing him to all the other men you have ever dated.

And he always comes out the best. Always.

9. Silence is fine.

There is no need to fill all the silences with endless chatter, you are both happy enough to sit there in complete silence. It works just fine.

10. You put him first.

We hate to say it but he says jump and you say how high. You hate being like that but it’s a fact of life. PUT YOURSELF FIRST! He’ll follow.

What If will be in cinemas on the 20th of August. Like Harry met Sally recast with hipster characters and a raucously funny script, WHAT IF is a charming and original comedy about the classic quandary – can men and women ever really be ‘just’ friends?
