The one Bridesmaids scene Kristen Wiig really didn’t want to include

Orlaith Condon

It’s got to be up there as one of our favourite movies of all time.

We dread to think of how many time we’ve watched Bridesmaids over the years. Yes, six years after its release (can you believe it’s been that long?) and we’re still laughing at the jokes.

One scene, in particular, stands out in our memory and has lived on in gifs and memes ever since – the food poisoning scene.

If you haven’t seen the movie, chances are you’ve still seen this scene because of its all-out hilarity.

However, there was one person who really didn’t want to see that particular moment in the film – Kristen Wiig.

The actress says she was “strongly encouraged” to include it in the movie so that the female characters could act more like men.

Talking to The Hollywood Reporter, Wiig said that the scene that stands out in many viewers’ memories was not her idea at all.

“When people say, ‘Oh, we’re going to give more female-centred movies a chance,’ you’re not reading the fine print, which is, ‘Oh, but, they have to be like this.’

“They want to see women acting like guys.

“The scene in Bridesmaids was not our idea and it was not in the original script and we didn’t love it.

“It was strongly suggested for us to put that in there. I didn’t want to see people s****ing and puking.”

Well, despite including a scene she wasn’t happy with, the movie went on to be nominated for a Golden Globe and two Academy Awards.
