Lorraine Kelly criticised for asking Gemma Arterton ‘uncomfortable’ question relating to her weight

Gemma handled it like a pro.

Actress Gemma Arterton appeared on ITV show Lorraine this morning to discuss her upcoming movie The Girl With All The Gifts and one question has been the source of much controversy.

The pair were chatting away when Lorraine posed a question regarding Gemma’s weight, asking if she’s ever been asked to lose weight for a role because of her ‘normal size’.

Comparing her to Hollywood actresses who have visited the studio previously, whom Lorraine described as ‘tiny’, the Scottish TV presenter said that she likes Gemma because she’s normal.

Unsurprisingly, people watching were up in arms about Lorraine’s choice of topic and took to Twitter, as is the norm these days, to express their annoyance.

Gemma proved unflappable and merely said that she wouldn’t work on those types of films, while also pointing out that that wouldn’t happen “anymore”.

Nonetheless, some viewers maintained that the question should never have been asked in the first place, describing it as “uncomfortable” and “rude”.

Lorraine is always pleasant and normally a huge hit with those tuning into her show, so it’s extremely unlikely that the question was meant to ignite such a reaction.

Still, the word ‘normal’ isn’t the wisest choice when it comes to weight, as every individual is different and it’s completely understandable that people were angered by the wording she used.
