The movie which was based on Roald Dahl's classic book of the same name, was an instant hit when it was first released in 1996.
Mara, who also starred in Mrs. Doubtfire and Miracle on 34th Street, enjoyed a hugely prolific acting career in her youth but has since turned her back on showbiz to focus on writing.

On her official website, marawilsonwritesstuff.com, she explains: "I don’t have any plans to pursue film acting. It’s not my “thing” anymore, if it ever was.
"Yes, I love working in theater and have always loved voice-over, but pursuing a full-time live-action film career does not appeal to me."

Her website also has a fun Q & A section in which she answers questions like "Why do you have the same hairstyle you had as a kid?".
Her response?
"…Does this really bother you?
"I probably won’t ever get rid of the bangs, because I have what gossip columnists have a “five-head”.
"One reason I like not being an actress anymore is that I’m not, and never have been, very glamorous or stylish."
Fans of Matilda will love the fact that Mara and Kiami Davael aka Lavender STILL hang out.
