The charismatic actor was full of praise for Gaeilge, explaining how he wanted his children to pick it up.

“I gotta keep up the Gaelic. I want them reading the literature, I want Riverdancing, I want them saying, ‘grand’ and ‘lunatic to the marvellous’”.

Back in 2001, the Dallas Buyers Club star, spent a summer in Ireland while filming Reign of Fire in the Wicklow Mountains and the “giant welcomes and warm hearts” won him over.

The 46-year-old who won us all over when he romanced Andie (Kate Hudson) in How To Lose A Guy In Ten Days further elaborated on his fondness for Gaeilge, saying:

“When they’re older, I want to send them to that Irish language summer camp you guys do, it’s like a rite of passage for you guys, isn’t it?

“When you’re teenagers. I want them fluent — which means I gotta do a crash course too”.
