Melissa McCarthy has hit back at critics of the Ghostbusters reboot

She had a lot to say.

For many, the Ghostbusters reboot due out this July is something they are anticipating with a lot of excitement. However, there has been a massive amount of criticism and anger directed towards the film.

The first trailer was the most disliked in YouTube history, and the criticism largely stems from the fact that the entire Ghostbusters team is composed of women (Kate McKinnon, Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones and Melissa McCarthy to be exact).

The trailer has been disliked over 800,000 times at the point of writing.

Melissa McCarthy recently spoke to The Guardian about the controversy surrounding the film:

“All those comments – ‘You’re ruining my childhood!’ I mean, really. Four women doing any movie on earth will destroy your childhood?I have a visual of those people not having a Ben, not having friends, so they’re just sitting there and spewing hate into this fake world of the internet. I just hope they find a friend.”

Sony Pictures CEO Tom Rothman made his feelings very clear, according to The Hollywood Reporter:

Everybody says I’m making the female Ghostbusters, but I say, ‘No, we’re making the funny Ghostbusters.’ Yes, it happens to be four women. It’s original. You get pissing and moaning on the Internet — sexist comments – but, you know, fuck ’em.

We’re inclined to side with these two on the matter.
