The How I Met Your Mother spin off is FINALLY happening

We might be seeing the gang back at McLaren's again

Third time’s a charm?

The How I Met Your Mother spinoff looks to finally be underway, four years after the credits rolled on the final episode.

The original gender-swapped idea was first floated in 2013, just months after the original series’ ninth season ended.

The How I Met Your Mother creators had cast and shot the pilot for the new series, called How I Met Your Dad.

CBS ended up passing on the spin off, and nothing else happening with the idea – until last year.

Two of the writers for This Is Us began to rework the original spinoff pilot – creating How I Met Your Father.

But when the series began taking off, the writers got bumped up to show runners on the hit – and it was abandoned again.

It looks like they’re trying for the third time again, and hopefully we will be seeing the gang at McLaren’s once again.

A new team of writers is already working on the idea and the new pilot will be starting completely from scratch – so it might not be the story fans were expecting.

Fox chairman Dana Walden told Deadline:

“The studio will try (developing a spinoff) with different writers. They will be starting from scratch… It’s one that’s been slowly cooked.

“If it’s the right idea the right execution, we’ll take that.”

Hopefully it doesn’t take nine seasons for this person to meet their children’s father – and that the show runners will let him survive the series.
