There is a movie coming about Flamin’ Hot Cheetos because… sure, why not

Rory Cashin

We’re now eagerly anticipating a movie about the war between Tayto fans and King fans.

There is a fantastic running gag in underappreciated animated movie Teen Titans Go! To The Movies in which Robin doesn’t understand why Hollywood has yet to make a movie about him.

Sitting in the local cinema, he watches trailers for upcoming movies about Batman’s car, Batman’s faithful manservant Alfred (who actually is getting his own TV series), and even Batman’s utility belt.

It is a great joke about living in a time when it seems like movies can be made about anything and anyone. Sure, we’ve already had movies based on emojis, mobile games about birds attacking pigs, and there has been a movie about Play-Doh in development for a few years now.

So when Deadline reported that there was a movie coming out about Flamin’ Hot Cheetos, it didn’t seem all that surprising.

Although that is being a little facetious, as the movie is actually about the creator of Flamin’ Hot Cheetos, a man by the name of Richard Montanez.

The movie, set to be directed by former Desperate Housewife Eva Longoria, will tell the story of Montanez, the son of a Mexican immigrant, who was working as a janitor at Frito-Lay when he came up with the idea for Flamin’ Hot Cheetos, which apparently “revitalized the company and disrupted the food industry, creating a pop culture phenomenon that continues today.”

Frito-Lay don’t really have a foothold in the market on this side of the Atlantic, and Flamin’ Hot Cheetos aren’t super easy to come by, but anyone who has ever travelled to the States will know just how popular they are.

However, does that warrant any entire movie about their creator? We’ll know once the movie comes out, which is apparently set to be titled, yep, Flamin’ Hot.

If they don’t serve them in cinemas when this comes out, then they’ve missed a trick.
