The death of former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher yesterday and the social media trend, “Ding Dong The Witch Is Dead” means that The Wizard Of Oz track could be propelled back into the British singles Top 40 chart.
While many mourned the death of the former prime minister, others took to the streets celebrating her passing.
Now, in the space of less than 12 hours, Judy Garland’s version of the track has shot up to number 54, The Irish Times reports.
It is also expected to climb even higher in the charts as a result of a Facebook campaign being set up to encourage sales.
Although people believed the 51-second track might have been too short to qualify for the charts, chart bosses said it can indeed happen.

The former British PM died yesterday following a stroke at the age of 87.
And it isn’t just Garland’s version of the track that’s selling: Ella Fitzgerald’s version has entered the British charts at 146 and the Munchkins’ at 183.
If the sales of the three versions were combined, it would be selling strongly enough to make it to the Top 40.
The Irish Times reports that the Official Charts Company will release its midweek sales tomorrow to give an indication of the single’s sales and a prediction as to whether it will make the Top 40 for this weekend.
