Dublin City Council has tonight voted in favour of introducing new restrictions on buskers in some of the city's most popular areas.
A appeal had been launched by some residents and business owners for amplifiers to be banned in locations such as Temple Bar but this suggestion was dismissed as being "too extreme" at this evening's meeting.
According to The Irish Times, buskers will be allowed to continue to use amplifiers but will have to keep the volume below 80 decibels and will have to pay a fee of €60 per year for a permit.
A permit for musicians who is not using an an amplifier will stand at €30 and all buskers will have to finish their sets by 11pm.
However, the new laws have been branded "unworkable" by Anti Austerity Alliance councillor Michael O’Brien, who said that he had hit 90 decibels speaking in the council chamber.
