LISTEN: Miley Cyrus releases new music addressing Liam Hemsworth split

A sad banger if we ever heard one.

Miley Cyrus has released new music seemingly referencing her recent split from husband Liam Hemsworth. And in fairness like, if this isn't directly relating to the breakup it's a decent enough coincidence. The couple, who married in December of last year, called quits on their relationship announcing the details of the split this week. A rep for Miley stated that the pair wanted to focus on their careers, while Liam shared an emotive Instagram post asking for privacy. And then at midnight last night, Miley decided to drop a sad banger onto our collective streaming platforms. It's called 'Slide Away,' and yes, it is of course as deeply upsetting as the song title would suggest. "Once upon a time, it was paradise / Once upon a time, I was paralyzed," go the lyrics. "Think I'm gonna miss these harbour lights / But it's time to let it go "Once upon a time, it was made for us / Woke up one day, it had turned to dust "Baby, we were found, but now we're lost / So it's time to let it go." The song goes on to reference the ocean, the city lights, whiskey, pills, and not being 17 anymore. Sound familiar? It should. Miley and Liam had been in an on-again-off-again relationship since meeting on the set of The Last Song back in 2009. They tied the knot in an intimate ceremony last Christmas, only to announced their split last week. “Liam and Miley have agreed to separate at this time,” Miley's rep told PEOPLE. “Ever-evolving, changing as partners and individuals, they have decided this is what’s best while they both focus on themselves and careers. "They still remain dedicated parents to all of their animals they share while lovingly taking this time apart. Please respect their process and privacy.” One week before, a rep for Brody Jenner and Kaitlynn Carter also told PEOPLE that the couple had decided to end their marriage. Miley was seen kissing Kaitlynn in Lake Como while they holidayed over the weekend.
