The couple famously met while filming the series in 1998 when Ashton was 20 and Mila was just 14 but didn't end up in a relationship until years after the show finished.
The new series' description reads: "Hello, Wisconsin! It's 1995 and Leia Forman, daughter of Eric and Donna, is visiting her grandparents for the summer where she bonds with a new generation of Point Place kids under the watchful eye of Kitty and the stern glare of Red.
"Sex, drugs and rock 'n roll never dies, it just changes clothes."
The original series first hit screens in 1998 and ran until 2006, with the new show set to have 10 episodes.
The show's creators Bonnie Turner and Terry Turner are also joining the show as executive producers, with Gregg Mettler as showrunner.
Wilmer Valderrama, who appeared in the original, previously told People that the cast had been discussing doing a film of the series, saying: "We've breezed through it. We've talked about it.
"I think a reboot right now — look, what we did at that time, at the age we were, was so ambitious and fearless and daring ... it'd be tough."Explore more on these topics:
