Netflix’s Sabrina the Teenage Witch reboot has cast their Aunt Zelda

Keeley Ryan

The Spellman family is (almost) complete.

In case you haven’t heard, Netflix is rebooting Sabrina the Teenage Witch – but with a slight twist.

The remake is set to have a gritty, darker tone as it will be based on the horror comic The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.

Mad Men actress Kieran Shipka has already been confirmed to play Sabrina, and The Vampire Diaries’ Jaz Sinclair is set to co-star as her best friend Rosalind.

We’ve also gotten our first look at Sabrina’s wise-cracking cat, Salem and, more recently, who will be playing Aunt Hilda.

But, as fans of the original series will know, you can’t have Aunt Hilda without Aunt Zelda.

And now it’s emerged that Homeland’s Miranda Otto will be stepping into the other aunt’s shoes.

According to The WrapZelda is described as being the “tough and stern” one – with an all-consuming devotion to the Dark Lord.

She believes that there is no greater honour than serving as a member of the Church of the Night – and is “fiercely protective of Sabrina and very much Cain to Hilda’s Abel.”

So, not quite the same Zelda that fans may have grown up with.

The news follows the casting of Sabrina’s warlock cousin, Ambrose.

According to Deadline, Chance Perdomo will take on the role of Ambrose Spellman, who was placed under house arrest by the Witches Council.

Described as “witty and puckish”, he is one of Sabrina’s partners in crime – and always up for mischief.

The Sabrina the Teenage Witch reboot was first developed at The CW as a companion series to Riverdale, another Archie Comics-based show.

It’s described as “a dark coming-of-age story that traffics in horror, the occult and, of course, witchcraft.”

The show was ultimately given a two-season, straight-to-series order at Netflix.
