New Girl cast pay tribute following death of co-star Ralph Ahn

“He gave so much with literally no lines.”

The cast of the sitcom New Girl have paid tribute to actor Ralph Ahn, who has passed away at the age of 95.

Ahn played the character Tran on the show, who served as a largely silent confidante to Jake Johnson’s character Nick.

As Hello! reports, his death was confirmed by the Korean American Federation of Los Angeles, but a cause of death has not been disclosed.

As well as appearing in the hugely popular New Girl, Ahn had roles in All-American Girl, The Division, ER, Gilmore Girls  and The Golden Girls.

Taking to social media, the cast of New Girl paid their condolences to the actor.

On Instagram, Jake Johnson wrote: “RIP. So much fun to work with. He gave so much with literally no lines.”

He went on: “I loved when he was on set. I was always expecting to somehow work with him again. Condolences to his friends and family.”

Zooey Deschanel, who played Jess on New Girl, commented “Noooooo” on Jake’s post along with a crying emoji.

Lamorne Morris, who played Winston, shared a separate tribute to Ahn on his own page.

He wrote: “Damn. RIP to Ralph Ahn. He played Tran on New Girl. Always the funniest scenes in the episode. This man lived a lot of life, keep his friends and family in y’all thoughts and prayers.”

Actress Olivia Munn, who played Angie on the show, also paid tribute to Ahn on social media.

On her Instagram stories, she thanked him for being an inspiration to Asian American and Pacific Islander performers in Hollywood.

“Thank you Ahn for being the best,” she wrote. “You brought so much joy to our lives and helped pave the way for all the AAPI actors that would follow you. We love you. RIP.”
