Nicola Coughlan’s Lady Whistledown reveal up for award at this year’s BAFTAs

Jade Hayden

Very much deserved.

If you have yet to witness the season finale of Bridgerton season one then stop reading now, because Nicola Coughlan’s character was revealed as the elusive Lady Whistledown – and what a reveal it was.

Jaunting along in a carriage under the cover of darkness, Penelope Feathering revealed herself to be the gossip liege much to the surprise of, well, most viewers.

The scene was iconic and the fact that our very own Coughlan was the centre of the mayhem and mischief occurring in British High Society made it even better.

The BAFTAs seem to think so too, because the reveal has only gone and been nominated for the Virgin Media Must See Moment of the year.

The nominees for this award were announced yesterday ahead of the rest of the BAFTA nominations. While Lady Whistledown’s reveal is by far the most satisfyingly shock (in our opinion), Coughlan could have some stiff competition in securing the gong.

Among the other nominees are The Mandalorian’s Luke Skywalker reveal, Gray killing Charlotte in EastEnders, and of course, Nigella Lawson pronouncing “microwave” like “mee-cro-wah-vay.”

The full list of Must See Moment nominations can be found below.

Bridgerton: Penelope Featherington is revealed as Lady Whistledown (Netflix)

Britain’s Got Talent: Diversity perform a routine inspired by the events of 2020 (ITV)

EastEnders: Gray kills Chantelle (BBC)

Gogglebox: Reactions to Boris Johnson’s press conference (Channel 4)

Nigella: Cook, Eat, Repeat: Nigella Lawson says “Mee-cro-wah-vay” (BBC Two)

The Mandalorian: Luke Skywalker appears (Disney Plus)

Elsewhere, the full list of BAFTA nominations was revealed this morning, with Small Axe, I May Destroy You, and The Crown leading the pack.

Closer to home, Paul Mescal and Daisy Edgar Jones have both been nominated for their roles in Normal People, while the series itself has been nominated for best mini series.

The winner of Virgin Media’s Must See Moment will be voted upon by the public, so if you have any major inclinations as to who should win, you know what to do.
