One of our favourite Corrie stars is returning to the cobbles

She'll be back on our screens at Christmas.

Great news!

Coronation Street bosses have confirmed that Carla Connor will soon be coming back to the soap.

Despite making what was thought to be a permanent departure from the cobbles last May, Carla, played by actress Alison King, will return at Christmas time.

We last saw then former Underworld boss leaving Weatherfield for a new life in Devon, but a new storyline will the see her coming back with a bang and clashing with Michelle.

Producer Kate Oates said, however, that she didn’t want Carla to become stuck in a cycle of misery on her return.

The character has contended with plenty of hardship since her debut on Corrie in 2006, including rape, attempted suicide, three broken marriages, alcoholism, gambling addiction and miscarriage.

Michelle and Carla.

“It’s time to break new ground with Carla,” she told Radio Times.

“I didn’t want to put her on that familiar cycle of self-destruction, recovery, followed by more self-destruction.

“What we’ll have instead are these two strong Connor women – Carla and Michelle – on opposing sides and in conflict for a change. It’ll be a refreshing dynamic for us to see.”
