Paul Mescal to star in new Irish psychological thriller

Sarah McKenna Barry

The actor has been incredibly busy lately.

Normal People star Paul Mescal has been cast in God’s Creatures, an upcoming Irish psychological thriller.

The movie, which is being filmed in Donegal, is set in a fishing village and follows a mother desperate to protect her son from the fallout of a choice she made.

Aisling Franciosi, who played Katie Benedetto in The Fall, will star alongside Mescal in this film from Sixty-Six Pictures. Game of Thrones fans may also recognise the Irish actress from her portrayal of Lyanna Stark on the show’s seventh series.

God’s Creatures will also star Love, Rosie’s Marion O’Dwyer and Calm with Horses’ Toni O’Rourke.

English actress Emily Watson will also have a featured role in the production.

Needless to say, it’s been a busy few months for Paul Mescal. God’s Creatures isn’t the only film he is working on.

The Kildare native is also filming Bring Them Down, another Irish film.

This thriller will see the Normal People actor star alongside The Crown’s Tom Burke.

Deadline reports that this thriller will follow an Irish shepherd who finds himself involved in a violent conflict following the mysterious slaughter of his flock.

On top of his busy filming schedule, Paul recently made Forbes’ prestigious 30 Under 30 Europe list.

The business publication acknowledged the actor’s contribution to television and theatre so far, while recognising his upcoming work.

Forbes wrote:  “As well as playing the title role in Martin McDonagh’s critically-acclaimed The Lieutenant of Inishmore, Mescal is due to star in Maggie Gyllenhaal’s directorial debut The Lost Daughter, and as the lead in Benjamin Millepied’s Carmen.”

Mescal’s Normal People co-star, Daisy Edgar Jones, also made the cut.

Indeed, with several projects on the line, the future is looking very bright (and busy) for the Kildare actor.
