All is not completely lost!

Bridgerton actor Regé-Jean Page may indeed feature in the second series of the Netflix series after all.

Shonda Rhimes has hinted that we haven’t seen the last of the Duke of Hastings on our screens.

The update comes just weeks after Netflix announced that the star will not be returning to the show.

However, the show’s creator hinted that he may indeed return for a cameo in the upcoming season.

Speaking to Vanity Fair, Rhimes admitted that she was “shocked” by the fans’ reactions to Page’s departure.

She said: “I was really shocked, because usually that happens when I’ve killed off somebody that’s been around for a while.

“Like, we didn’t kill him, he’s still alive! (Page) is a powerful, amazing actor and that meant we did our job – every season, our job is finding the right people and putting together this incredible, world-shifting romance.”

The producer told the magazine that Page has been invited back for cameo appearances.

She said: “There’s a lot of fantastically interesting talk that’s been going on, mainly cause I think people are having a hard time letting go.”

The news of a possible cameo comes just a week after Page himself commented on his departure.

The actor said: “It’s been an absolute pleasure and a privilege to be your Duke. Joining this family – not just on screen, but off screen too.

“Our incredibly creative and generous cast, crew, outstanding fans – it’s all been beyond anything I could have imagined. The love is real and will just keep growing.”

Yesterday, Netflix delighted Bridgerton fans as they confirmed seasons three and four.

The show’s resident Gossip Girl, Lady Whistledown, announced the news on social media, adding that she will have to “purchase more ink”.

Season two of Bridgerton is currently in production.
