Review: Melissa McCarthy is brilliant in the action packed comedy ‘The Boss’

Laura Holland

Melissa McCarthy is brilliant in her latest movie, The Boss

She stars alongside Kristen Bell and Peter Dinklage in this comedy about a successful businesswoman, Michelle Darnell (McCarthy), who finds herself starting from scratch after all her assets are seized and she’s sent to jail for five months for insider trading.

Once Michelle is released from prison she seeks refuge from the only person who will take her in, her old personal assistant Claire (Bell). The two develop a new brownie company which aims to outsell the local cookie-selling group of Girl Scouts. Along the way, they stumble upon a few hiccups with old and new enemies which ultimately ends in a near fight to the death. Swords and all.

Sounds bizarre but the story works and it makes for some hilarious scenes. Naturally when you have the likes of McCarthy on board for a movie it’s bound to be funny. But she has some particularly funny one liners and scenes which add to the overall tone.

Peter Dinklage is the perfect bad guy in the movie and he’s worlds apart from his Game Of Throne character, while Kristen’s role balances the comedy with the personal and family storyline.

Overall this would get 4/5 stars from us and as it’s an easy to watch movie with plenty of laugh out loud moments.

It comes out June 10th, 2016.
