Riverdale boss shares the first look at season 3 as he teases seriously intense scenes

Riverdale showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa has shared the first glimpse at the series' hotly anticipated season three.

Namely, our first look at Archie. The second season series ended with Archie being arrested for the murder of Cassidy who, as viewers already know, was actually killed by Andre, Hiarm Lodge's assistant. And after a few months of K.J. Apa, who plays Archie, sporting a new 'do, it looks like he's back to being a redhead - at least for a little while. Confirming that the series would be kickstarting their third season this week, Aguirre-Sacasa shared a photo of the actor in the gym. He captioned the post:

"Look who's back in red and fighting shape for Season 3 of #Riverdale. We start Friday. SO EXCITED!"

He told The Hollywood Reporter: 

"I think what started in my mind as a traditional coming-of-age show quickly morphed into something that was a little pulpier, something that was more noir, something that had a suspense or crime element.

"Yes, in season one, we did a murder mystery, and in season two, we did a serial killer in a small town and The Godfather in a small town.

"Season three will have a high genre element like that. That's what the show is. It's not just about the Archie characters.

"It's the Archie characters put into a specific genre, and we see how they relate and survive and adapt."

And for any super-sleuths hoping to figure it out before Riverdale returns to our screens later this year, here's where you need to look. Aguirre-Sacada hinted:

"I would look back at episode seven of this season [two]..."
